Analytical sensing, quantum control and ultraviolet disinfection all run on precisely engineered light, and demand for each is growing. The light sources are the constraint: lamps with short lifetimes, lasers assembled from discrete components, optics aligned by hand.
They work. They just can't be made small enough, cheap enough, or in large enough numbers to put engineered light everywhere it's useful.
Uviquity is changing that.
Uviquity builds photonic chips on aluminum nitride, the same semiconductor materials system behind the white LED. Aluminum nitride carries light across a wider range of wavelengths than any other chip platform, from the deep ultraviolet through the infrared, and converts light from one wavelength to another directly on the chip.
A pump laser is integrated onto the same die, so the complete light engine sits on a single chip, fabricated at wafer scale, thousands at a time.
We demonstrated the platform by generating 222 nm light on a chip. No one had done it before.
